Alexis Peskine (b. 1979, Paris, France) lives and works between Paris, France and Dakar, Senegal. Solo shows include Galerie Le Manège, Institut Français, Dakar, Senegal (2016); The Devon House Mansion, Kingston, Jamaica (2015) and SLP Gallery, University of San Diego, USA (2014). Group exhibitions include Museum of Contemporary Photography, Chicago, USA (2018) and Somerset House, London, UK (2016).
Building on his heritage and personal experiences, Peskine’s work is thematically linked to the Black experience. His practice is focused on the complexity of themes that impact on people from the African Diaspora, and often touches on the ideology of consumerism and mass consumption. His unique technique, taking its inspiration from screen printing, bridges the gap between graphic design and fine art by using the same design aesthetic to appeal to the public, focusing strongly on both form and content.
