Cécilia Bengolea (b. 1979, Buenos Aires, Argentina) lives and works in Paris, France. Recent solo shows include SFERr IK Museion, Tulum, Mexico (2019) and Art Institute FHNW Academy of Art and Design, Basel, Switzerland (2019). Her work and performances have been exhibited in biennales and group shows including Palais de Tokyo, Paris, France (2018 and 2015); Tokyo Spiral Hall, Biennale de São Paulo, São Paulo, Brazil (2016); Centre Pompidou Paris, France (2016 and 2010); and Tate Modern, London, UK (2015).
Bengolea’s work is focused on anthropological research of community dance forms, with a strong interest in the relationship between nature, the elements, animist beliefs and choreographed figuration. She has shaped her practice around dance and performance, although occasionally she uses other media such as video, sculpture and online projects.
