Igor Grubić (b. 1969, Zagreb, Croatia) lives and works in Zagreb, Croatia. Solo shows include the Croatian Pavilion at the 58th Venice Biennale, Venice, Italy (2019); and DOCK, Basel, Switzerland (2013). Among his participations in recent biennales and mayor group shows Curitiba Biennial of Contemporary Art, Curitiba, Brazil (2019); Museum of Contemporary Art Zagreb, Zagreb, Croatia (2018); and Belvedere 21, Vienna, Austria (2018).
Grubić’s practice explores the realm of politics and moves across different temporalities, often focusing on the symbolism of power and dominant historical narratives of exclusion. His work is characterized by thorough and lengthy research, personal involvement and direct participation. Site-specific interventions in public spaces, photography, and film stand at the core of his practice, although he is also working as a producer and author of documentaries, TV reportages and socially committed commercials.
