Josephine Meckseper (b. 1964 in Lilienthal, Germany, lives and works in New York. Solo exhibitions include among others: the Frac des Pays de la Loire (2019); the Parrish Art Museum, Water Mill, NY (2013); the FLAG Art Foundation, New York (20011); the Migros Museum für Gegenwartskunst, Zurich (2009); the Museum of Modern Art, New York (2008) and the Kunstmuseum Stuttgart (2007). Her works have been featured in numerous international biennales, including the Taipei Biennial, Taipei, Taiwan (2014); the Sharjah Biennial, Sharjah, UAE (2011); the Whitney Biennale, New York, USA (2006 and 2010).
Josephine Meckseper received her MFA at the California Institute of the Arts, Los Angeles in 1992. Throughout her installations and vitrines, by simultaneously exposing and encasing common signifiers, such as advertisements, political icons, and everyday objects, she creates a window into the collective unconscious of our time.
