Karen Khachaturov (b.1992 Yerevan, Armenia) lives and works in Yerevan. Biennales and major group shows include Hay Art Centre, Yerevan, Armenia (2019); ICP Museum, New York, USA (2019); Art Shenzhen, Shenzhen Exhibition Centre, Shenzhen, China (2018); Npak Art Centre, Yerevan, Armenia (2017); and House of culture, Tbilisi, Georgia (2015).
Khachaturov defines himself as a conceptual photographer. His often humorous work features a very distinctive and recognisable stylistic cipher. He generally utilises a gentle pastel palette to create imagery that combines a wide range of references spanning commercial photography to surrealism. Khachaturov’s photographs often highlight the sense of social alienation that has haunted humanity since the dawn of modernity and which still accompanies us into the post-contemporary.
