Neïl Beloufa (b. 1985, Paris, France) lives and works in Paris. Recent solo shows include Pirelli HangarBicocca, Milan, Italy (2020); Palais de Tokyo, Paris, France (2018); and MoMA, New York, USA (2016). Recent group exhibitions and biennales include Venice Biennale, Venice, Italy (2019) and ICA Miami, Miami, USA (2017).
Beloufa’s work focuses on power structures, authority (including that of the artist) and belief systems which he challenges and deconstructs by staging ambiguous scenarios. In doing so, the artist ultimately interrogates the viewer’s own assumptions as well as the ability of the artist to make believe. His multimedia practice – which includes films, sculptures and installations often mixed together – operates elusively at the intersection of reality and fiction.
