Video, 15'57"

Networks in Reverse – From the Interplanetary Internet via the ARPANET to the Last Pre-Internet Moment is the story of the internet in reverse, and exists independently in three forms: as a text, a video work and a performance. Seen here in its video form, this work is a history that highlights the ethical implications of cybernetics and the link between technology and modes of power, the increasing gathering of intelligence, and the consequences of potential new systems in the future. Like much of Treister’s work, the video engages with an eccentric narrative to examine the genealogy of cybernetics and can be used as a means to envision possible alternative versions of history and of the future.
